Purpose

WAFIKO is a community platform for pet owners: animal profiles, a map of members, meetups between members, lost-and-found animal alerts, a directory of shelters and services, a questions-and-answers forum, and a news feed. These terms of use (the "ToU") govern use of the service by anyone who creates an account on it.

Registration and minimum age

Registration is open only to people aged 18 or over. Registration checks this condition by means of a checkbox when the account is created; no identity document is requested, but any false statement about age is the responsibility of the person making it and may lead to the account being deleted.

Each person may only create one account, under their real identity or a pseudonym, and agrees to provide accurate information and keep it up to date.

Rules of conduct

The following are prohibited on the service: abusive, discriminatory, defamatory or harassing remarks; content that is violent or pornographic in nature or that condones animal cruelty; spam and unsolicited commercial canvassing; any impersonation; and, more generally, any content or behaviour contrary to applicable law.

Content published by members

Each member remains solely responsible for the content they publish: text, photographs of animals, photographs of people, messages, comments. By publishing content, the member warrants that they hold the necessary rights to it (in particular the right to the image of any people shown) and grants WAFIKO the right to display and distribute it as part of the normal operation of the service (news feed, animal profile, map, alerts). This content remains the property of its author, who may remove it at any time by deleting it from their account.

Photographs showing identifiable people must be published with their consent. WAFIKO may remove a photograph reported as having been published without the consent of the person shown.

Shelters and associations listed in the directory may be claimed by their actual manager after verification by the moderation team.

Meetups between members

Meetups organised via the service (walks, visits) are offered between private individuals, under their sole responsibility. WAFIKO puts members in touch with each other but is not a party to these meetups, does not verify participants' identity, and cannot be held liable for what happens there. It is recommended to favour a public place for a first meetup and to let a trusted third party know about it.

Lost and found animal alerts

The service allows alerts to be published when an animal is lost or found, with an approximate position chosen manually on a map (never the device's precise GPS position). These alerts are publicly visible in order to maximise the chances of finding the animal. WAFIKO does not guarantee the accuracy of information published by members and does not get involved in returning an animal to its owner.

Directory of shelters and services

The directory of shelters, veterinarians and animal-related services is provided for guidance only. The location information shown on the map (including the OpenStreetMap base maps) is purely indicative and should be verified directly with the establishment before any visit.

Reporting and moderation

Any member may report content or an account that does not comply with these ToU. How moderation works is detailed on the Reporting and moderation page. The moderation team may remove content, or suspend or delete an account, in the event of a serious or repeated breach, including without notice in an emergency.

Suspension and deletion of accounts

Each member may delete their account at any time from their settings, which results in the deletion or anonymisation of their personal data in accordance with the Privacy policy. WAFIKO may suspend or delete an account in the event of a breach of these ToU, or at its holder's request.

Changes to these ToU

These ToU may be changed to reflect developments in the service or in applicable regulations. The date of the last update appears at the top of this page. In the event of a substantial change, members will be informed by a message on the service before it takes effect.

Applicable law and jurisdiction

These ToU are governed by Spanish law, the publisher's place of residence. If you reside in another European Union member state, the mandatory consumer-protection provisions of your country of residence continue to apply. Failing an amicable resolution, any dispute falls within the competent courts in accordance with these rules.
